It is with sadness that we announce a much-loved Worcester Public School Teacher, Peter “Pete” Grillo passed away Saturday, March 20, 2021 after a period of declining health.
A life-long resident of Worcester Pete was one of five children of Italian immigrants Peter and Carmela (Cosentino) Grillo. He graduated from Worcester Public Schools, joined the U.S. Army during the Korean War servicing his country proudly. Following his discharge from service, Peter then followed his dream to become an educator of young minds, earning his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Education from Worcester State College. He began his teaching career in the Upton, and Grafton School systems before accepting a position in his hometown of Worcester where he guided young minds until retiring with over 30 years of educating young students.
Pete was very dedicated to family all his life; He leaves his sister, Rose M. Grillo with whom he lived, his brother, Rosario “Riz” Grillo and his wife Mary of Shrewsbury, a niece, Elaine Palumbo, and her husband Mike, three nephews, Robert “Bobby” DeCaro and his wife MaryEllen, Michael Grillo and his wife Erin, Joseph Grillo, and his wife Hilary; many great nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends. Besides his parents, a sister, Concetta “Connie” DeCaro, brother-in-law, Samuel DeCaro, and brother Louis Grillo all predeceased him.
He was a beloved teacher, who kept in contact with many of his former students over the years. A wonderful cook, special occasions, family dinners and anytime they could be together are the moments that made Pete smile. The family will never forget the love and care he put into cooking the Christmas Eve feast for so many years. He will be so greatly missed.
Out of an abundance of caution, Funeral service will be held privately. THE MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St is honored to assist the family with arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Central Ma Veterans, 60 Grove Street Worcester 01608.
