Peter R. Palumbo, 93, formerly of West Boylston, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 28th, 2019 after a brief period of declining health.
Peter was born in Worcester, June 30, 1925, one of seven children of Italian immigrants Vincent and Giustina (Sette) Palumbo. He graduated from Commerce high school, joined the U.S. Navy serving his country proudly a member of the greatest generation during World War II. In 1952, Peter married Rita M DeBonis and they began their life together. The lived in Worcester before moving in 1972, to West Boylston with their young daughters and he has lived there for more than 45 years. He worked as a machinist for the former Arduini Corporation many years before retiring.
Peter’s wife of 40 years, Rita passed away in 1993; his two daughters, Justine M. Hobin and her husband Gerard of Marshfield and Mary R Clifford of Shrewsbury; a brother Lawrence R. Palumbo of Worcester; a sister, Margaret Arena of Shrewsbury; five grandchildren; several great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and extended family members. Two brothers, Frank V. and Joseph V. Palumbo, and three sisters, Grace Frisari, Theresa Pepi and Rita DiTerlizzi all pre deceased him.
Peter was a former member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, and the West Boylston VFW Post. Peter loved to Dance with Rita, tinkering around his home and yard, Fishing especially Deep sea, and tending his garden. He was also a fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.
A period of calling hours will be held Thursday, May 2nd from 10 am to 11:30 am in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. followed by a prayer service at 11:30. Burial with military honors will follow in St John Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial remembrances in his name can be made to the Activities fund, Chelsea Soldiers Home, 91 Crest Avenue, Chelsea, MA 02150
