Raymond A Simoncini, 76, a lifelong Worcester resident, devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the ones he loved and who loved him, Sunday, January 22, 2023 after a valiant battle with cancer.
Raymond was born in Worcester, the son of Alberico J. and Antoinette (Lapriore) Simoncini. He graduated from North High class of 1964, joined the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, serving in the National Guard. Ray then founded, guided and nurtured the Sherbrook Construction Company before founding Simoncini Construction and retiring, then turning the company over to his son, William.
Raymond is survived by the “Love of his life” and partner for over 39 years, Donna (Hassett) Simoncini; his five children, Raymond J. Simoncini, Michael A. Simoncini, Jill Marie Castinetti and her husband Adam, Christine M. Bonasoro and her husband Anthony, and William “Billy” Simoncini; his sister; Annette Simoncini; a brother, Ronald Simoncini; eight grandchildren, he cherished and adored, Kira Elizabeth, Albert James “AJ”, Briar Jamesyn, Alana Joy, Samantha Rae, Kylie Marie, Jaxon Salvatore and Isla Marie. His dog and best friend who was always by his side “Rico”. Many nieces, nephews and numerous friends who loved him very much.
He is predeceased by his brother Dr. William A. Simoncini.
Ray was a friend to all. His bright smile, loving way and infectious sense of humor were unmatched. He always had a kind word for everybody. He loved his neighborhood, his home, backyard, his garden, flying kites, the beach and especially snowstorms. Ray will most be remembered for his love of his grandchildren, and the excitement whenever they were around him. He hosted many holidays, backyard barbecues and celebrations with family and friends and anyone who would stop by. His home was welcomed to all.
Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours Wednesday, January 25th from 4 pm to 7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. His funeral will be held Thursday, January 26th from the funeral home with a procession to St John’s Church, 44 Temple St where his Mass will be celebrated at 10 am. Burial will follow to St John Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial remembrances in his name can be made to Dana Farber Cancer institute, 450 Brookline Ave, Boston, or the Jewish Healthcare Hospice, 629 Salisbury St. Worcester.
