Ret. Worcester Police Sergeant Philip J. Ohman

March 20, 1934 — July 8, 2022

Philip J. Ohman, 88, a lifelong  Worcester resident, passed away with loved ones gathered at his side on Friday, July 8, 2022 after a period of declining health.               

Philip was one of seven children of Francis and Signe (Soderquist) Ohman.  Phil is survived  by his children, Thomas Ohman and his wife , Gayle, of Worcester,  daughter Catherine Peters and her husband, Jon, of Holden, brother Paul Ohman and his wife, Nancy, sister Jane Tuccio and husband, Matt,  five grandchildren, Melissa, Thomas Ohman, Matt Ohman and his wife Krystina, Cindy Murphy and her wife Kristy, Jonathan Peters and his wife Tiffany; six great grandchildren, Dante and Dorian Ramadan, Landon and Riley Ohman and Sebastian and Benjamin Murphy. Phil also leaves many nieces and nephews, extended family members and friends. He was predeceased by granddaughter Jamie Peters, two brothers David and Robert Ohman and sisters Dorothy Trainor and Lois Lynch, and dear friend and mother of his children Catherine Ohman Handley.                          

   Phil was appointed to the Worcester Police Department and served the residents of Worcester for 44 years, retiring as a Sergeant. He was also a retired Army National Guardsman in which he served over 20 years.           

Phil loved Cape Cod and Nauset beach where he fished and camped in his beach buggy with his family and friends in the 60s and 70s, always looking for the big striped bass.  His other favorite outdoor activities included hiking at Green Hill Park and Wachusett reservoir. He was an avid swimmer and enjoyed playing gin with his friends at the Worcester Court Club and traveling to the Connecticut casinos.   He faithfully met his coffee buddies at the coffee shop every morning. Later in life he enjoyed snow birding in Venice, Florida.

A period of calling hours will be held Friday, July 15th from 10 am to 12 noon in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St followed by a prayer service and military honors.  Burial will be private.  In lieu of flowers memorial remembrances may be made to the Worcester Police Relief, 805 West Boylston Street, Worcester.
