Rev. Willie G. Johnson, Jr.

Reverend Willie G. Johnson, Jr., 75 of Manchester, NH., formerly on Worcester, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 10, 2022 at Community Hospice Home in Merrimack, NH. with his family by his side.

Willie was born on September 12, 1946 in Welch, West Virginia, one of six children to the late Willie G. and Mary O. (Shelton) Johnson, Sr.  He graduated from Kimball High School in Kimball, West Virginia.  Willie was a social worker for the Massachusetts Department of Transitional Assistance for over 25 years before his retirement.  He was the Pastor of New Beginning Church of God in Christ in Manchester, NH. Also, a former member of Mt. Sinai Church of God in Christ in Worcester where he was a youth pastor; leading the youth in YMCA basketball leagues, attending MLK Youth breakfasts and many outdoor adventures, including Webster Lake every Summer.  While a resident in Worcester, he was a member of The Elks of Worcester, the Brotherhood football team.  Willie was also a mentor for Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Worcester.  In his spare time, he loved fishing especially deep-sea fishing and spending time with family. He was always known by the words “I’m too blessed to be stressed”

Willie is survived by his wife, Gloria B. (Brown) Johnson; two sons, William Watkins and his wife Carletta of Southbridge and Willie G. Johnson, III of Worcester; two daughters, Jessie Miller Adonteng of Holland and Amy Parker-LeBeau of East Brookfield; a brother, David A. “Tony” Johnson and his wife Wilmi of Nashua, NH.; a sister, Rose M. Johnson Adams of Worcester; nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.  He is predeceased by three sisters, Mona M. Koger, Alma Hampton and Stevie A. Johnson.

A period of calling hours will be held on Friday, June 24, 2022 from 9-11 am with his Celebration of Life Service to begin immediately at 11:00 am in Mt. Sinai Church of God in Christ, 63 Wellington St., Worcester.
