Richard L. Miles passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at the age of 83 in his home (that he built) in Westport, MA. He is reunited with his high school love and wife of over 60 years, Marika C. (Folta) Miles.
Richard was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend to many. He is survived by three sons, Richard N. Miles of Carrollton, TX, Steven C. Miles of Miami Beach, FL, and Robert L. Miles and his wife Carol of Dacula, GA, three grandchildren who he adored: Amerah (her husband Jordan) Davis, Ryan and Bennett Miles; a great grandson, Cameron Davis; a sister, Marilyn J. Koch (her husband James) of Northborough, MA; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a sister, Katherine Hack. He was born in Worcester, son of the late Abraham and Clara (Ricci) Miles. He graduated from Worcester Classical High School and later earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Southeastern Massachusetts University (UMass Dartmouth).
Richard worked for over 40 years as an electrical engineer with the Department of the Navy at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Newport, RI, before retiring in 2003. He was an active member and volunteer at Saint Stanislaus Parish in Fall River, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Full of energy, he built three homes, worked on the cars, and was constantly learning how to repair things.
Family was front and center in all he did. Richard’s family, friends, and all who knew him will remember his kindness, generosity, and intelligence. He could always be counted on to lend a hand or share a thoughtful perspective. He was an inspiration to those who knew him and the positive impact he made on so many lives will continue.
Calling hours will be on Saturday, December 28, from 9:30 am until 10:45 am in the church where he and Marika were married, Our Lady of Czestochowa, 34 Ward Street, Worcester, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 am. Interment beside his beloved wife will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester, MA.
The family has entrusted Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel in Worcester, MA.
