Richard P. O’Malley, 80 of Worcester passed away surrounded by loved ones Sunday, February 10, 2019 after a brief illness.
Richard was born in Worcester, one of six children of Irish immigrants, Anthony and Kathleen (Brennan) O’Malley. Raised in Worcester, he met and later married Janet Joliceour. The settled in the Plantation St neighborhood to raise their children over the next 48 years with love and devotion until Janet passed away on March 10, 2010. He continued to live and guide his family until his passing. Richard provided for his family as an employee for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts department of youth services over 37 years before retiring in 2002.
He is survived by his two devoted children, Timothy M. O’Malley and his partner, Maria Rinaldo of Charlton, Noreen M. Busha and her husband Roger of Webster; a brother, Anthony O’Malley of Boylston and sister Ann O’Malley of Worcester; six grandsons, Matthew, Michael, Ryan, Joshua, and twins, Kyle, and Patrick and his wife Erika; four great grandchildren, Quincy, Connor, Lillian and Mackenzie; Many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Besides his wife Janet, three sisters, Alice Jacobs, Kathleen O’Malley and Mary Johnson pre-deceased him.
Richard was a member of the Worcester Lodge of Eagles, the Post 3, VFW Italian American Veterans and the Eastside Improvement Association. Richard was an avid Golfer, loved to play cards and a huge New England Patriots fan.
Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours Thursday February 14th from 4 pm to 7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. his funeral will be held Friday, February 15th from the Funeral Home with a procession to the Church of St Anne, 130 Boston Turnpike Rd, Shrewsbury where his celebration of Christian Burial mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am. Burial will follow in St John Cemetery.
