Richard A. Sharameta

November 5, 1936 — June 9, 2024

Worcester

Richard A. Sharameta, 87, of Worcester, passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2024 at the Rose Monahan Hospice Residence, and is reunited in Heaven with the love of his life, Rita (Cappabianca) Sharameta.

Richard is survived by many nieces and nephews, including his primary caregiver, Joseph Cappabianca Jr.  He was pre-deceased by his sister, Aldona Mastro.  Richard was born in Worcester, son of the late, Anthony and Anna M. (Wackell) Sharameta, and has lived here all his life.

Richard worked in the mail room for Bank of Boston for twenty years, before retiring in 2002, having previously worked for twenty-six years as a warehouse manager for Thom McAn Shoe.  He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, the Columbus Civic Club, and was a life member of the PNI.  He and Rita enjoyed traveling and “The Wonder of It All”.

Richard enjoyed Boston sports teams, especially the Celtics.  He was an avid walker and former member of the Green Hill Golf Club. He was a great athlete in high school and played basketball for the school, the YMCA, and the Boys Club.  He was proud of the newspaper article written about him and his bowling group in 2018, who share the proud distinction of having bowled in the same Friday Night Group for sixty-eight years at Colonial Lanes.

His family would like to thank all the wonderful staff at Eisenberg Assisted Living for their care and compassion, making him feel comfortable and as if he was in his own home.

A Calling Hour will be on Thursday, June 13, from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester, followed by a procession departing at 10:45 a.m., enroute to a 12 Noon Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Loreto Church, 33 Massasoit Road, Worcester.  Entombment will follow at Saint John’s Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Eisenberg Assisted Living Center, “Keepsake Unit”, 631 Salisbury Street, Worcester, MA 01609
