Rita Colaizzi

Rita Colaizzi, 99,  six months short of her 100th birthday on April 29, 2022, passed away peacefully Monday November 8th, 2021.

Rita was born in Worcester, one of nine children of Antonio and Mary (DiGregorio) Colaizzi. Raised in the Mount Carmel Church neighborhood of Worcester, she worked over 40 years in Office administration  for the Velumoid Corporation in Worcester, before retiring.

Rita is survived by her younger sister, Katherine Nelson of Shrewsbury, many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Seven siblings Helen “Elena” Lamir, Ann “Nan” Flaherty,  Lucy Whimbury,   Josephine, Alfred, Nicholas, and Jane Colaizzi,  all predeceased her.

Rita never blessed with children, found boundless joy with her nieces and nephews. Being around them, playing with them, and enjoying the holidays and other special occasions with her extended family brought her great joy.  Rita, a very giving person, was the family member who  cared for her parents and could be depended on to provide care and attention to any family member who  needed it.

A period of calling hours will be held Friday, November 12th, 2021, from 9:30 am to 11:00 am in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Her funeral service will follow at 11 am. Burial in the family lot will be in St John Cemetery.
