Robert T. Hazelhurst, 64 of Worcester, passed away peacefully at home with his wife by his side on Monday, August 12, 2024.

Robert was born in Worcester; he was the son of the former Worcester Police Officer, Robert R. Hazelhurst who was killed in the line of duty on November 21, 1968. He graduated from Burncoat High School, Class of 1978. Bob enlisted in the United States Army in 1981 and later discharged to the Army National Guard. 

Bob continued his education earning his bachelor’s degree in media communications from Worcester State College, Class of 1988 and then went on to earn a master’s degree in criminal justice from Anna Maria College, Class of 1994. He joined the Worcester Police Department in 1991 serving the community for 23 years as a police officer and was assigned in various departments including operations division, the motorcycle unit and the detective bureau throughout his career before he retired in 2014. Bob was also a longtime member of the Massachusetts Police Association.

Bob took a liking to drawing at a young age and became an impressive, talented artist. His passion in life was music and he carried his love of music into a career as a DJ in the 1980s at “The Club” where he was affectionately known as DJ Bobby H prior to joining the Worcester Police Department. He was noted for his wit and humor and making others laugh particularly his maternal grandmother whom he adored. Bob also was an avid New England sports fan, especially when it came to the Boston Red Sox and his beloved New England Patriots.

Bob is survived by his wife and best friend of 31 years, Michele A. (Convey) Hazelhurst; his mother, Elizabeth A. (Brosnan) Hazelhurst; two brothers, Paul Hazelhurst and his wife Linda and WPD Sgt. Kerry Hazelhurst and his wife Denise; his sister, Lori Quinn and her husband Francis; a brother-in-law, Mark Convey and his wife Tracie; an uncle, Ronald Brosnan, four nieces and three nephews, Megan and Erin Hazelhurst, Owen, Katherine “Katie”, and Sean Quinn, Nolan and Jenna Convey, several cousins and his beloved fur babies, “Bonkey” and “Moet.”

Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 from 4-7 pm with his funeral service immediately following at 7:00 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester.
