Robert J. Jaston, Sr. a life long Worcester resident, and retired Worcester Police Officer passed away at home, Sunday, September 30th, 2018 with his loved ones gathered at his side.
Bob was born in Worcester, the son of Frank J. and Mary G. (Power) Jaston. Raised in Worcester, Bob graduated from High School, joined the U.S. Navy during World War II. Upon discharge from the Navy, Bob worked for the New England Power Company, before being appointed a Worcester Police Officer, where he served faithfully for more than 25 years before retiring. Bob’s love for fishing lead him to also become a commercial fisherman for over 30 years, where he lived the “Wicked Tuna” lifestyle as a tuna fishman many years on his boat “Southern Comfort”. An occupation, he loved doing with his wife, children and grandchildren.
Bob has overcome many family tragedies in his life. His wife of 59 years Mary A. (Migliozzi) Jaston passed away in 2006. Bob also lost over his life, four of his five children, sons, Robert Jaston, Jr, Frank Jaston; daughters, Joy Davini and Judy Ross; sisters, Dorothy and Claire.
Bob is survived by, a daughter; five grandchildren, including Charles Johnston and his wife Alida who cared for Robert; seven great grandchildren; a niece Patti George, and nephews, Richard, Anthony, Robert, Steven and John Penny he was very close to and helped raise; other nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Bob was a member of St John’s Church, the Worcester Police Relief, IBPO 911 Union and the American Legion. Although his family was first in Bob’s life, his true love was Eastham on Cape Cod and fishing.
Funeral services were held Friday, October 5th. Burial with Military Honors were held in St John Cemetery. Memorial remembrances in his name can be made to the Worcester Police Relief Association, 9-11 Lincoln Square. The MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St is honored to have served the Jaston family.
