Robert F. Pellegrino, 88, a lifelong resident of Worcester passed away peacefully Friday, June 21st 2024, after a period of declining health.
Robert was born in Worcester, one of twelve children of Italian Immigrants, Pietro and Angelina (Vitteritto) Pellegrino. Raised and educated in Worcester, Robert joined the U.S. Navy after graduation from Commerce High school, serving his country proudly during the Korean War. Robert worked to provide for his family as a bricklayer for the Bricklayers union with various construction companies before retiring.
Robert’s “Love of his life” Lois (Iolati) Pellegrino passed away in 1999. He is survived by his three children, Lisa Schaffer, Robert Pellegrino Jr, Kelly Gallagher and her husband Adam all in Florida; three grandchildren, Nicholas D’Andrea, Dante Pellegrino and Chris Schaffer; two sisters-in-law, Frances and Diane Pellegrino; and many nieces and nephews; In addition to his parents and wife Lois, a grandson Dylan, seven brothers, Peter, Joseph, Frank, Angelo, Anthony, Albert and Raymond Pellegrino, and four sisters, his twin Rita Pellegrino, Dottie Palermo, Sarah Venuti and Eleanor Santoro all predeceased him.
Robert was a member of Our Lady of Loreto Church, the brown Square Civic Club, and Worcester Lodge of Eagles. He was an avid Horse fan, enjoying races at Suffolk Downs, Lincoln Downs, Saratoga in the summer and the racetracks in Florida while vacationing with family as a member of the “Snowbirds” wintering in Ft Lauderdale Florida.
Calling hours for Robert will be held Wednesday, June 26th from 4 pm to 7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. His funeral will be held Thursday, June 27th from the funeral home with a procession to Our Lady of Loreto Church, 37 Massasoit Rd, where his Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am. Burial with Military honors will follow in St John Cemetery.
