Robert "Bob" Scalzo

Robert J.  “Bob” Scalzo, 69 a lifelong resident of Worcester, passed away with loved ones gather at his side, Tuesday, April 27,2021 after a brief and valiant battle with stomach cancer. 

Born and raised in Worcester in the Lakeview neighborhood of Worcester, the son of Peter F. and Carole A. (Rovezzi) Scalzo.  He graduated from North High School and attended Quinsigamond Community College and lived in the house he grew up in all his life.   Rob worked many years for the U.S. Postal Service as a mail handler for the Worcester and Shrewsbury sorting facilities retiring as a supervisor. 

He is survived by his sister, Donna J. Verdolino and her husband Paul of Grafton, a brother, Richard Scalzo of Costa Rica, and North Carolina; a niece, Amy, two nephews, Sean, and Michael; nine great nephews and nieces; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.  His best friend and pet dog, “Sam” a Chesapeake Bay retriever predeceased him. 

Bob was a member of the former St. Margaret Mary Parish; a wonderful individual with a huge heart, simple lifestyle, and bright smile, who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, the holidays and family gatherings, hiking, biking, fishing the lakes, streams, and ocean year-round.  Being outdoors, was his peace and tranquility.  An avid sports fan, Bob, followed his favorite teams, the Bruins, Patriots and Red Sox.  

Funerals services and burial will be private.  Memorial contributions can be made to the Rose Monahan Hospice Resident, care of the VNA, 120 Thomas Street, Worcester, MA. 01608.    The MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St is honored to assist the family with arrangements.      

The Scalzo family would like to thank the Rose Monahan Hospice residence and the doctors, nurses, and staff of the UMass-Memorial Oncology department for the care comfort and compassion they gave to Robert during a difficult time.
