Rosa Olga Machado Torres, 82, of Worcester, MA, peacefully passed away on May 26, 2022, at Christopher House, surrounded by her family, after a period of declining health. She was born on September 30, 1939, in Manati, Puerto Rico, to Rosa Perez and Candido Torres. Rosa is now reunited with her husband of 54 years, Rafael Machado, and her siblings, Maria Luisa “Ali” Torres, Celestina “Ita” Torres Perez, and her brothers Petin Torres Perez (age 2) and Tito Torres. She is survived by her youngest sister, Amparo Torres Perez, of Worcester, MA.
Our beloved Rosa is survived by four children and their spouses: Jose R. Machado and his wife, Haidee, of Oxford, MA, Alma Rosa Makowski and her husband, Jerry, of Bradenton, FL, Edwin Machado and his husband, Glenn Mezzanotti, of Worcester, MA, and Adrian Machado and his wife, Yenaida Gonzalez, of Worcester, MA. She leaves behind 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was the epitome of the ideal wife, sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, and friend. Rosa meant the world to her children. She is fondly considered as a “second mother” to many.
She was extremely close with her sisters and loved spending time with them. The bond between her and her sisters was one that was inseparable, admirable, and rare, regardless of the miles between them. She was a renowned cook and loved cooking traditional foods. She had a generous heart and welcomed all who came to visit with a huge smile and genuine hospitality. Rosa enjoyed knitting, gardening, dancing, singing, playing cards, and arts & crafts. Rosa had an angelic singing voice that often brought great emotion from whomever was listening.
Rosa was an extremely hard worker that did what was necessary to help support her family. She worked in various Worcester factories; however, she found her passion working as a daycare provider at Worcester Comprehensive Childcare Center, which was her most satisfying and joyful job as it fed her nurturing spirit. Her laughter had healing powers and her hugs calmed anyone’s worried soul. We are left with her powerful message that, “You can have all the riches of the world, but what makes you truly rich is the love of your family.”
