Rose M. Richie

Rose M. (Schiavone) Richie, 93 of West Boylston, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 27, 2018 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Rose was born in Worcester, a daughter of the late Dominic and Philomena (Belculfine) Schiavone. She was a graduate of Commerce High School and after graduation, she worked at Woodall’s and Richard Healy Company.  In 1951 when she and her husband John were married, they moved to West Boylston where they raised their family. Later in life, she was involved with the West Boylston Senior Center, the Red Hats, and during voting season, she worked at the polls – a job she loved.

Rose was a fabulous cook, loved to bake and enjoyed a multiple of crafts. Her pies and meatballs were craved by all.

Rose’s husband of 61 years, John P. Richie, passed away on October 8, 2012.  She is survived by her son, John P. Richie, Jr. and his wife Jacqueline of Hummelstown, PA; her daughter, Carol A. Vadenais and her husband Edmond of Bellingham, MA; her sister, Angela Prue of Newport News, Virginia; three grandchildren, Keith Woodman, Nicholas and Marina Richie.  She is predeceased by two brothers, Joseph and Natale Schiavone.

A period of calling hours will be held on Friday, June 1, 2018 from 8:30-10:30 am in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester.  Her funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 1^st at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 111 Worcester St., West Boylston.  Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Cemetery, West Boylston.  In lieu of flowers, kindly make a donation in memory of Rose to a charity of one’s choice.  To share your thoughts and memories of Rose, please visit her personal guestbook at www.mercadantefuneral.com
