Ruth A. Nimee, a resident of Worcester and Singer Island, Florida, passed away on her 94th birthday, Friday, February 1, 2019, in the comfort of her home in Worcester, surrounded by her wonderful caregivers.
Ruth was born in Leominster, daughter of the late, George and Mary (Peters) Nimee. She graduated from Leominster High School and attended Lasell and Simmons Colleges; she had a career background in finance and administration, where she spent all of her professional life.
Ruth is survived by her brother, William R. Nimee of Waltham; her niece Cindy Williams and her husband, David, and their daughter, Ashley of Middletown, RI; and her niece Beth Piermarini and her husband David of Townsend, MA; several cousins, including Donald and Joyce Peters and their family. Ruth was predeceased by a brother, Robert E. Nimee, two sisters, Evelyn Nimee-MacGillvray and Marguerite “Peggy” Swydan, and a niece, Robin MacGillvray.
She was a benefactor to many causes, as her mission was to continue work whenever she could make a difference. Ruth was a life-member of the Order of Saint Ignatius and served as Executive Secretary and spoke in many churches throughout the country on behalf of The Order; and was a Patron of the Arts of the Vatican Museum. She became a member of the University of Balamand Foundation, in Lebanon, and through this connection she was able to follow the growth of the University and has a chair in her name in the University’s School of Medicine.
In 2001, she was elected to the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America Board of Trustees and served actively during this period. For five years she was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center; having worked for many years prior actively assisting in the creation of the center. Holy Trinity was the first Pan-Orthodox project of it’s kind. For several years, Ruth served as a member of the Board of Corporators of New England Baptist Hospital in Boston.
With her great sense of adventure, she traveled the world and visited forty-two countries. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and devotion to her fellow man.
Ruth’s family would like to thank her devoted and loving caregivers, Michele, Judy, Sue, Maggie, Teresa, and their wonderful leader, Pam from Family Tree Homecare. They are truly “angels”.
