Our bright and shining star, Ryan T. Benoit, 37, died in Newton on November 25, 2018 after a long and courageous fight against addiction. Although his addiction did not define who he was, it claimed his life and took that beautiful light away from so many of our lives.
Ryan was born in Worcester, MA on September 6, 1981. He shared his childhood there with his family until moving to North Carolina. He graduated from New Hanover High School in Wilmington, NC. in 1999. He lived there for many years working as a chef and a carpenter but always made time for music in his life. EDM was a huge part of who Ryan was, and his love for music took him all over the country. As he grew older, he developed his skills with carpentry, eventually opening his own business called Benwa Builders after he moved back home in 2009 to Massachusetts. His work was exquisite; you could truly see the pride when he finished a project, but nothing made him as happy as his music and being DJ Benwa.
Ryan’s natural need to help others led him to beautiful things in his pursuit for recovery. He became an active member of different programs and groups helping people fight the same disease he knew all too well. He also helped cook Thanksgiving Dinner for those in need at a local church as well as volunteered with the Salvation Army. His heart was huge and Ryan’s absence on this earth has left a void that must now be filled by those who he knew, loved, and worked with. His recovery community meant everything to him, and in his honor, we ask you to remember Ryan and help bring light to this disease.
Ryan leaves a loving family and close friends that will remember him as a man that fought a brave battle and was an encourager to those around him. He leaves his beloved daughter Khloe S. Benoit, his mother Stephanie A. LeHane, his father Robert A. Benoit Jr, two brothers Robert J. Benoit and Cory M. Benoit. Ryan also leaves the love of his life Jessica Morrison and her two children Jackson and Libbie. Along with many aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, Ryan had a large family of friends.
A celebration of Ryan’s life will take place on Saturday December 1, 2018 at the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME AND CHAPEL 370 Plantation St. Worcester Ma 01605. Calling hours will be from 4-7pm followed by a funeral service at 7pm.
