Salvatore Frank DePari, 97, of Sutton formerly of Worcester passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 8, 2024 at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester surrounded by his loving family.
Sal was born in Worcester on June 2, 1927, the sixth of eight children of Italian immigrants, the late Frank and Anna C. (Recca) DePari. He graduated from Worcester Boys Trade School in 1945 before enlisting in the U.S. Navy where he proudly served his country aboard the USS Corregidor. Sal regaled his family with stories of his time in the military for the rest of his life.
After returning to Worcester, Sal married Theresa M. Acquaro. They shared nearly 72 years of marriage until her passing on February 8, 2022. He is survived by a son, Francis DePari and his wife Jean of Worcester; a daughter, Mary Sciannameo and her husband Carlo of Sutton, with whom he made his home; a sister, Theresa DiStratis and her husband Anthony of Worcester; six grandchildren, Kristie DePari, Matthew DePari and his wife Jamie, Daniel DePari and his wife Christine, Lisa Sciannameo and her partner Sean Weilbrenner, Christina Sciannameo and her husband Daniel D’Amico and Gina Mantel and her husband Cameron; six great grandchildren, Isabella, Lia, Madelyn, Nicholas, Elliott and Luca; several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was predeceased by three brothers, Victor “Count” DePari, Joseph DePari and Stephen “Tex” DePari; three sisters, Philomena Romano, Angelina DePari and Mary Ciccarelli.
Sal was employed as a welder and diemaker at ACME Tool Cutting and Die Company 40 years. He then worked at John Adams Company, retiring in 1992. He was a dedicated, talented and hardworking man. In his free time Sal enjoyed gardening, woodworking, watching sports: pool, and horse racing. He especially loved telling stories. He was proud of his Italian heritage and was never one to turn down “a nice dish of macaroni.” Sal also loved trips to the casino and went once a week with his son until the age of 97. Nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We in turn, could not have asked for a better husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle. He was a patient, kind, charming man with a sweetly endearing sense of humor.
