Samantha "Sam" Mercak

Samantha “Sam” Mercak, 19, a lifelong resident of Worcester, passed away suddenly at home Sunday, December 24, 2023, after many years of mental health challenges.

Sam was born in Worcester, April 22, 2004, and graduated Doherty High School. Samantha notably played softball, soccer, field hockey, lacrosse and volleyball growing up.

Samantha is survived by her mother, Laurie (Quinn) Mercak with whom she lived, her father, David Mercak and stepmother Sasha; three brothers, Braden, Lincoln and Jameson Mercak all of Worcester; her paternal grandfather John Mercak of Leominster and paternal grandmother, Janet Mercak of North Brookfield; her beloved uncle Michael Quinn of Worcester and Doug Mercak of North Brookfield; extended family and many friends including her best friends, Ginny and Kristine who brought out the best in her and gave her many joyful memories. Her maternal and loving grandmother, Barbara Quinn predeceased her. 

Sam loved sports of all kinds and stood out at each; her favorite being volleyball. She loved practicing yoga at home and taking walks to the park to find inner peace. Sam also loved music, photography and trips to the beach. She especially loved Hampton and summer family vacations at Old Orchard. She was very artistically talented and would spend hours drawing and creating pictures. She loved being with her friends laughing and acting incredibly silly. She had a kind, compassionate soul with a bright smile and a huge thoughtful heart. She will be deeply missed and forever carried in our hearts. 

Friends and relatives are invited to a period of calling hours Saturday, December 30th from 3 pm to 6 pm, followed by her funeral service. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial remembrances in her name can be made to the National Alliance for mental illness,   NAMI Massachusetts, 331 Montvale Ave Ste 200,  Woburn, MA 01801-4675.
