Samir M. Bitar, 60 of Worcester, passed away peacefully surrounded by beloved family at home on Tuesday, October 26, 2021.
Samir, affectionately known as Sam to loved ones, was born in Beirut, Lebanon the eldest son of Adele (Greige) Bitar and the late Mikhail M. Bitar. Raised and educated in Lebanon, Sam immigrated to the U.S. and settled in Worcester on August 8, 1977. Sam worked in manufacturing his entire life, most recently from 2008 to 2021 as a Process Engineer for the Greene Rubber Corporation in Danielson, CT before retiring recently due to illness.
Sam is survived by his four sons, Samir M. Bitar, Jr. and Mikhail J. Bitar both of Charlton, Nicholas M. Bitar and stepson, Josue Lopez both of Waltham; his mother Adele Bitar of Shrewsbury; five siblings, Joseph Bitar of Shrewsbury, Raymond Bitar and his wife Melissa of Worcester, Fadia McCarthy and her husband Dennis Lacourse of Paxton, Martin Bitar and his wife Laura, and Nader Bitar, all of Shrewsbury; six grandchildren he cherished, Isabella, Mikhail Jr., Alanna, Paul, Aden, and Gianna; the mothers of his children, Faith and Janeth; six nieces, four nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, both here, in Jacksonville, Florida, and Lebanon. His father Mikhail passed away in 2013.
Sam was a member of St. George Orthodox Cathedral. He enjoyed playing cards with family, watching sports, listening to Arabic music and American music from the 1970's and 1980's, and nothing brought a bigger smile to his face than enjoying delicious food with his family and friends. Sam had a huge heart and a bright smile and loved to be among family and friends.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, October 28th from 4 pm to 7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. His funeral service will be celebrated on Friday, October 29th at 10 am at St. George Orthodox Cathedral in Worcester. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery in Worcester. In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances in his name can be made to St. George Orthodox Cathedral Endowment Fund, 30 Anna Street, Worcester, MA 01604.
The Bitar family is extremely grateful for the support and thoughtfulness provided by his employer and coworkers, and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute for their care, comfort, and compassion during this difficult time.
