Sandra M. (Assad) Johns, of Worcester, passed away on Monday, February 8, 2021, at Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation with family by her side.
Sandra is survived by her loving husband and best friend, Andrew N. Johns, with whom she would have celebrated fifty-five years of marriage this coming May. She is also survived by a brother, John Assad of Worcester; a sister, Patricia Tammi and her husband Gerald of San Carlos, CA; nieces and a nephew, Cheryl Tomczyk of Sterling, Patrick Assad of Paxton, and Abigail Mariani of San Mateo; great nieces and great nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Alan J. Assad and by a nephew, Joseph Assad. Sandra was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Patrick and Josephine (Dee) Assad and has lived here all her life. She graduated from North High School and attended the nursing program at Quinsigamond Community College.
Sandra devoted her life to her husband and to caring for others; for many years she was the primary caregiver for several family members and at one time worked as a medical secretary at Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Saint George Catholic Church, she enjoyed playing tennis, and loved being surrounded by family and friends. She had many happy memories vacationing on Cape Cod and visiting family in upstate New York. Her smile would light up a room and her caring soul made everyone feel like family.
The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at Holy Trinity as well as the kind people of Brookhaven Hospice, for their care and compassion in treating Sandra.
Calling Hours for Sandra will be on Monday, February 15, from 9 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. in Saint George Church, 38 Brattle Street, Worcester. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery will be on Tuesday, February 16, at 10 a.m. in the Saint Luke Section.
Covid protocols will be practiced at the funeral home, church, and cemetery; these include social distancing and the use of a face mask.
