Santo Joseph “Sonny” Lasorsa, 88 of Shrewsbury, MA passed away peacefully on October 23, 2018 at UMass Medical Center.
Santo was born on August 1, 1930 in Milford, MA, a son of the late Joseph and Theresa (Mazzarelli) Lasorsa. He was a graduate of Milford High School. Santo was employed as a printer by the Telegram and Gazette, the Boston Globe and the Boston Herald as well as many other papers for 25 years before entering the teaching profession. Santo went back to school and received his bachelor’s degree from Fitchburg State College. He worked as a graphic arts teacher at Worcester Vocational Technical High School for 17 years.
Santo was a member of the Massachusetts Vocational Association, the International Typesetters Union and the Massachusetts Teachers Association. Santo was an adviser for several years for the Vocational Industrial Clubs of America, an organization which fosters the growth of industries wherein students compete on the state, regional and national level in various trades. He was also a member of St. Anne’s Church in Shrewsbury.
An Avid sportsman, “Sonny” played semi-pro football for the Milford Trojans and baseball for Milford Legion. In fact, he became the first high school athlete to hit a home run at Milford’s Fino Field.
Santo is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Norma L. (Capurso) Lasorsa; three sons, Steven J. Lasorsa of Tampa, FL, David P. Lasorsa and his wife Brenda of Port Angeles, WA and Robert J. Lasorsa and his wife Mary of Palm Desert, CA; a brother, Angelo Lasorsa and his wife Anna of Brewster, MA; two grandsons, Nicholas Lasorsa of Denver, CO and Justin Levy and his wife Laura of Gilroy, CA; a nephew, Joseph Lasorsa of Milford. He is predeceased by two sisters, Rita Lasorsa and Lena Tumolo.
Services for Santo will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2018 from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester with a Mass at 11 am in St. Anne’s Church, 130 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury. A period of calling hours will be held on Saturday, October 27th from 9:30-10:30 AM in the funeral home prior to departure for his funeral mass.
