Shirley M. (Weagle) Bonofiglio, 89, of Dennisport, formerly of Auburn and Worcester passed away peacefully Sunday, June 2, 2024, after a long illness
Shirley was born in Worcester, the youngest daughter of Canadian immigrants Howard and Elva P. (Whynot) Weagle. Raised in Worcester, Shirley married Dr. Richard A. Bonofiglio in 1954, and began a 60-year life of faith, family and love raising their three sons in Worcester, before moving to Auburn and eventually to the family home in Dennisport. The “Love of her life” Richard passed away on November 1, 2014. Shirley co owned and operated with her husband Bio-Medical Labs Inc many years before retiring.
Shirley is survived by two sons, Richard A Jr., James W, his wife Regina and granddaughter Gabriella (aka “Miss Petunia”) all of Dennisport; her in-laws, Ronald and Ann Bonofiglio of Worcester; Many nieces and nephews along with extended family and friends; In addition to her parents and husband Richard Sr. she was predeceased by her son John M. who passed away in 1978 and three sisters, Muriel, Beverly and Gloria.. A special thanks to her personal caregiver, Shannon Joy, who took such wonderful care of her and Dr. Timothy Biliouris, whom she shared a special bond with.
Shirley was a member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church. She enjoyed reading, knitting and especially looking out over her “Ocean Bluff”.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday, June 25th from 9-11 am in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St followed by a prayer service at 11 am. Burial will be in St Johns Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial remembrances in her name can be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital, 51 Blossom St, Boston 02114 or St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Way, Memphis TN 38105.
