Stella E. (DiLiddo) Mastro, 105, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by loved ones, Thursday, September 26th 2024. Stella is reunited in heaven with her love and husband Nicholas Mastro who passed away in 2006, granddaughter Sherri Galligan who passed away in 2022, sisters, a brother and other family members.
Stella was born, June 11, 1919, in Boston’s North End, the daughter of Joseph and Susanna (Angiulo) DiLiddo. Raised in Worcester, Stella married Nicholas E. Mastro and settled in the family home in the Lakeview neighborhood of Worcester where she lived and passed away in for over 80 years. Stella in her employed years owned the former Corey’s Hot Dog stand worked at her mother’s restaurant on Shrewsbury Street, the former Howard Johnson’s/ Ground Round and D’Amico’s Bakery before retiring.
She is survived by, a daughter, Elizabeth Casello of Worcester; a grandson, Christopher Casello; two great grandchildren, Brady and Lainey Galligan; her caretaker, Maria Smith; Nieces, Nephews, and people who cared for and looked over Stella. In addition to her parents, husband Nick, granddaughter Sherry, a brother Charles DiLiddo, sisters, Angela Eilertsen and Connie Labellarte predeceased her.
Stella, a loving and giving woman, who had a giant smile, huge heart and quick wit, enjoyed walking everywhere she could, or riding her bicycle. Her true passion was cooking and baking – and was an amazing self-taught culinary expert. She notably, routinely baked her favorite cakes for friends, neighbors and relatives. Stella loved to dance, was a master at doing crossword puzzles, watching cooking shows, taking trips to the casino and traveling in the USA and around the world. She always had a love of animals and treated her dogs like they were her four-legged fur children. Often times Nick would witness Stella dancing with her dogs and having tea and birthday cake with them on their special day. She loved Nick so much, she returned regularly to his gravesite in St Johns Cemetery to care for it and remember him.
Stella’s funeral Mass will be celebrated, Monday, September 30th at 10:00 am in St Mary’s Church, 640 Main St. Shrewsbury. Burial will be in St John Cemetery next to Nick. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions in her name can be made to the Second Chance Animal Shelter, 111 Young Rd, E. Brookfield, Ma, Neads Service dogs, 305 Redemption Rock Trail, Princeton, Man 01541 or a charity of one's choice. THE MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St is honored to assist the family with arrangements once more.
