Stephen A. Thoren (1941-2021)
Passed away peacefully at St. Vincent Hospital on February 9th at the age of 79. Stephen was born in Worcester, the son of Barbara (Dobson) & Chester Thoren. He is survived by his two sons, Stephen Thoren and his wife Christina (Prizio) and Paul Thoren, all of Worcester; his sister, Judy Dillon and her husband Joe, of Shrewsbury and his best friend and caretaker, Tommy Riedey; He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren, John Thoren, Christian Thoren, Grace Thoren, Alexis (George) Pena and two great grandchildren, Isabella and Lucia. He also leaves behind many in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by his young son David Thoren who passed in 1971.
Steve tragically lost his mother and four siblings when he was only 10-years-old, but demonstrated his mental fortitude by joining the military and serving his country in the U.S. Army. Steve enjoyed the freedom of being in the sky, and got his pilot license in the 1970’s where he flew his own 4 seater Cessna out of Barre Hiller Airport. He spent many years working at Norton’s company and was an arborist for over 55 years, working for both Dillon Tree and Steve’s Tree Service. In fact, a few years ago you could still catch him working on the job. Steve was a good man who was content with the little things in life. He would give you the shirt right off his back. His electric blue eyes and affectionate smile will be greatly missed. A private family service will take place later this year. The family wishes to send a special thank you to all of those involved in his care over the years. The MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St is honored to assist the family with arrangements.
