Sylvia Portier Blonder

Sylvia Portier Blonder, 64, of Gardner, passed away on Monday, July 26, 2021 at The Lahey Clinic in Burlington, MA.

Sylvia is survived by her adoring husband of thirty-five years, Edward F. Walsh, III; a daughter, Rebecca Blonder of New York City; two stepsons, Edward F. Walsh, IV and his wife Jill of Worcester, MA and Michael S. Walsh of Fort Lauderdale, FL; three brothers, Gerard Edward Hendric Frederick Portier of Sarasota, FL, George Paul Portier of Medway, MA and Robert William Portier and his wife Julie of Exeter, NH; two grandchildren, Derek and Nicole Tempesta; and many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and great nephews.  Sylvia was born in Amsterdam, Holland, daughter of Indonesian parents, Wim and Elisabeth (Jansen) Portier.  She came to the U.S., with her family, when she was three years of age. 

Her family settled in Watertown before moving to Medway, where she graduated from high school. She later attended Boston University and M.I.T., and it was in Cambridge where she met her future husband, Ed.  She and Ed moved to Worcester then to Gardner MA in 2009. 

Sylvia worked as an information technology engineer for many years with Netzza Corporation before she retired.  She was a talented artist who created pieces in both ceramics and painting.  She was a beautiful person with a kind soul and beautiful heart.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life at Calling Hours on Friday, July 30, from 9 a.m. until her Funeral Service begins at 11 a.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester.

Flowers may be sent or donations in her memory may be made to a charity of the donors choosing.
