Theresa M. Smith, 63, of Worcester, passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2023 at UMass Hospital in Worcester, surrounded by love and laughter.
Theresa is survived by a sister, Elizabeth A. Foley and her husband Robert of East Harwich; two brothers, Edward C. Smith and his wife Linda, with whom she lived for many years, and James M. Smith and his wife Carleen of Jefferson; a sister in law, Mary Ellen Smith of Holden, her brother William’s surviving wife; an uncle Harry Roy; nieces and nephews, Kara and Leah Foley, John Koza and Eleanor Renaud, Timothy and Maggie Smith, Ashley Doherty, Shannon Smith, Christina Olson, and Katie Smith; her oldest friend, Mary Kate Doherty; her boyfriend, Stephen; many friends and acquaintances. Theresa was born in Worcester, daughter of the late, James E. and Elizabeth (Grigaitis) Smith, and has lived here all her life.
Theresa was a life-long attendee at the Mercy Center and was a member of the Mercy Center Choir, she participated in the Special Olympics, and the Women’s Tuesday night bowling league. She was a member of Saint Stephen’s Church, where she attended regularly with her parents and was a Eucharistic minister. Theresa also enjoyed trips to Native American Reservations and the social networking with the BAMSI Program. She volunteered at the Worcester Food Pantry and for Meals on Wheel’s
Her family would like to thank Laurie Martin and the staff at the Seven Hills Group Home, for their loving kindness and support of Theresa for the last eighteen months.
Calling Hours will be on Wednesday, July 12, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. Her Funeral will be on Thursday, July 13, departing the funeral home at 9:40 a.m. in procession to a 10 a.m. Funeral Mass at Saint Stephen’s Church, 357 Grafton Street, Worcester, with her friend Fr. Jonathan Slavinskas presiding. Interment will follow at Saint John’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Building Fund at Saint Stephen’s Church in care of Holy Family Parish, 20 Hamilton Street, Worcester, MA 01604 or to the Youth Program at Saint Bernard’s Church, 236 Lincoln Street, Worcester, MA 01605.
