Thomas A. Hammond, Jr.

March 19, 1957 — May 10, 2020

Thomas A. Hammond Jr, 63 of Auburn died peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday May 10, 2020 in the comfort of the home of Mike and Linda Hammond, his brother and sister-in-law. He leaves his loving family, Shanan Hammond, daughter, her partner Andy Mendoza and grandchildren Matthew, Lilian, Thomas and Adela of San Diego CA, his twin sons Brandon & Cody of Homestead FL, step-children Jessica, Thomas & Ricky, whom he was especially close to.  He is survived by his siblings Nancy Estabrook, Christina Alexander, Mike Hammond and Alan Hammond. He leaves many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Thomas A. and Mary C. (D’Antonino) Hammond.

Tom was born in Worcester, raised in Auburn and graduated from Auburn High School in 1975. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving his country for 12 years which gave him the opportunity to travel the world. While serving, he met his best friend Don Albertson and his wife Kathy. Tom and “Alby” served together and remained the best of friends to this day. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he worked for several years at Job Corp, as a counselor and teacher. Tom had more fun in 63 years than most people could have in 3 lifetimes.  His approach was to live for the now, love for everyone, never hold a grudge, appreciate what you have; “Smile, laugh, relax, fish and have a drink”.  Toms love of the ocean and warm weather ran through his veins.  If you were looking for Tom, he was probably on a boat somewhere down south fishing with his boys.  He enjoyed every day to its fullest and always was the life of the party. He was a fan of the Patriots and Red Sox.  If a game was on, you could find him in the recliner with his “Team” shirt on.  While we as a family will miss him immensely, we are forever grateful to give his mother Mary, in heaven, the greatest Mother’s Day gift she could ask for; her baby boy.  Heaven just became a little more fun.

We love you Tom,

A military service will be private and directed by Mercadante Funeral Home.
