Timothy "Tippy" Dagle

February 11, 1938 — July 8, 2019

Timothy F. “Tippy” Dagle, 81 of Worcester, passed away surrounded by the ones he loved Monday, July 8th 2019, after a valiant battle with cancer, reuniting in heaven with his beloved wife, Kathleen “Kay” who passed away in May of last year and his two grandsons Brian and Timothy.

Tippy, born in Worcester, into a large, Irish family of eight children of Timothy and Theresa (Leahey) Dagle.  He grew up in the Lakeview neighborhood of Worcester.  He graduated from Sacred Heart Academy, a standout student, Baseball and Basketball player and notably where he met his future wife and love, Kathleen “Kay” Hehir.   He joined the U.S. Army after graduation, serving in the reserves during the Korean War and beginnings of Vietnam.  On Kay’s birthday, September 27th, 1958, they married and began their nearly 60-year marriage of love, devotion, family and friends.  A great part of those years were spent in the upper Burncoat neighborhood of Worcester, where he resided until his passing.

Tippy, provided for his family as an employee of National Grid for over 39 years before retiring as a crew leader. Not one to sit home in retirement, National Grid, brought Tippy back part time teaching new employees at its training facility on Rte 20 in Millbury.

Rejoined in heaven with Kay, who passed away May 18th of 2018;  Tippy leaves behind family he cherished;  Paul T Dagle and his wife Ann of East Lyme CT, Michael J. Dagle and his companion, Lili Zannotti of Sturbridge, Kathleen “Kathy” Sacco and her husband Pat of Shrewsbury and Nancy O’Malley of Worcester; a brother, Donald Dagle of Shrewsbury; two sisters, Barbara Renaud of Las Vegas, NV,  and Mary Montiverdi of San Antonio, Texas; 13 grandchildren; two great granddaughters; Many nieces, nephews, brother and sister in laws, other extended family members and a host of friends, especially his great circle of neighborhood friends the O’Rourke’s, McGovern’s and Holly Abrusama and lifelong childhood friends, Larry Falcone and Michael Quinn.  Besides his wife Kay and grandsons Brian and Timothy, three brothers, Timothy, Raymond and Kevin Dagle, and his catholic religious nun, Sister Mary Therese Dagle also predeceased him.

Tippy and Kay were devoted Catholics, members and church volunteers of Our Lady of the Rosary Church.  Tippy like Kay was also an avid golfer, enjoying many days together on the golf course playing in the couple’s league at Pine Ridge Golf Course and in Myrtle Beach with Kay and other times with family and friends from National Grid.  Tippy was also an active member and volunteer of the Adelphi Counsel #4181 Knights of Columbus in Shrewsbury.  He loved to travel, family vacations in Eastham on Cape Cod, the holidays, special occasions, playing bocce and cribbage and anytime he could be around his precious family.  Tippy and Kay truly believed that faith, family and their friends were the most important parts of life.   He was very generous with his love, time and resources, and was a friend who would lend a hand to anyone who needed it.   Tippy’s passing leaves a hole in all that knew him and they will never forget those special moments with Tippy.

Friends and relatives are invited to gather for calling hours, Thursday, July 11th from 4 pm to 7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street.   His funeral will be held Friday, July 12th from the funeral home with a procession to Our Lady of Rosary Church, 35 Fales Street where his celebration of Christian burial will be held at 9:30 am.  Burial with Military honors will follow next to Kay in St John’s Cemetery.    In lieu of flowers memorial remembrances in Tippy’s name can be made to his grandson's foundation The Brian Dagle Foundation, 461 Main St Niantic CT, 06357 or the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 450 Brookline Ave, Boston, MA 02215.  Members of the Adelphi Council Knights of Columbus will meet 6:30 pm Thursday at the funeral home to conduct their ritual.

The Dagle family would like to thank the medical professionals that cared for and gave great strength to our Dad during a difficult time, especially Dr. Wei and the Dana Farber Cancer Center.
