Venkateswaran Subra Moni passed away peacefully in his home in Worcester, MA on October 26th, 2023. He was 97 years old.
Moni was born in 1926 in the southern part of Tamil Nadu, India. He married his wife, Vedam, in the 1950s, and eventually settled in Bombay (Mumbai), where he raised his two children and served as a surrogate parent to countless nieces and nephews. In the late 1990s, Moni and Vedam permanently moved to the United States to be with their daughter, Janaki, and granddaughter, Priya. He lived for many years in East Lansing, MI, where he was an active member of the Indian community. Moni and his family then moved to Worcester, MA, where he spent his remaining years.
Friends and family always associate Moni with his love of gardening. Once he moved to the US, he truly flourished, growing many flowers and vegetables in both of his homes. Many will also remember how much Moni adored children, happily giving them sweets and treats. Those closest to him knew that he was a man governed by love, honor, and duty for his family. He would always sacrifice his wants for his family’s needs.
Moni is survived by his wife, Vedam, children, Janaki and Shankar, and grandchildren, Priya, Vidya, and Geeta. They ask that you celebrate his life by taking time to appreciate all the flowers you see.
