Biography of Mrs. Victoria Y. Anim: A Devoted Christian Matriarch
Early Life & Education
Mrs. Victoria Y. Anim (née Yissifu) was born on July 22, 1944, in Gambaga, Ghana, to Corporal Salifu and Sofo Sibie, both of blessed memory. Growing up in Ghana, Victoria became the first female in the Kakara-Sibie & Salifu allied families to receive an education. She was a trailblazer, starting her academic journey at Zobzia Primary School before moving on to Bolgatanga Girls School. Her remarkable academic performance earned her a place at Tamale Secondary School, where she was one of the first seven females to attend this prestigious institution in Northern Ghana.
Nursing Career
After completing her secondary education, Victoria pursued her passion for healthcare at the Okomfo Anokye Nursing Training School, where she obtained her nursing diploma. Her career began at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra, Ghana, but her quest for further specialization took her to London, England. There, she earned a midwifery degree from Oakland College, an affiliate of St. Albans General Hospital. Returning to Ghana, Victoria co-founded the first Rabito Clinic, a dermatology clinic, at Kanda, Accra, in July 1974, in collaboration with Professor Edmund Delle. Her career later took her to Lagos, Nigeria, where she worked at the First Consultant Hospital. Eventually, she moved back to London, where she worked as a midwife at Whittington Hospital for an impressive 40 years before retiring in 2008. e who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. Marriage & Family
Victoria married Col. William E. A. Anim, of blessed memory, a kind-hearted and devout man with a passion for faith and soul-winning. Together, they raised two children and supported numerous other family members, instilling in them the values of discipline, hard work, and love of family. Their home was known for its warmth and hospitality, a testament to Victoria's nurturing spirit.
A Life of Prayer and Devotion
Victoria's life took a profound turn when she became a born-again Christian. Her devotion to prayer became a cornerstone of her life, earning her the title of "prayer warrior" within her family and community. Her unwavering faith and dedication to intercessory prayer made her a beacon of hope and comfort for many. Whether praying for the sick, troubled families, or global issues, Victoria’s prayers were a source of solace and strength, drawing people closer to God.
Generosity and Philanthropy
Victoria's generosity knew no bounds. Inspired by the teachings of Jesus Christ, she lived a life of service and giving. Her support extended to her family, friends, local church in London, and numerous Christian organizations worldwide. She often contributed quietly, reflecting her humble spirit and genuine desire to make a difference. Additionally, she sponsored missionaries, aiding their efforts to spread the Gospel and provide assistance in remote regions.
Legacy and Final Years
Even as her health declined in her later years, Victoria continued her ministry of prayer and giving. She remained a pillar of faith and strength for her family and community. Her life was a testament to the power of deep, abiding faith in God, and she frequently encouraged others with the comforting words of Psalm 91. Victoria passed away peacefully on June 13, 2024, at UMass Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family.
Surviving Family
Victoria is survived by her daughter, Hellen Anim of Worcester; her son, William Anim, and his wife, Felicia, of South Windsor, CT; three brothers, Maj. Rtd Audu Mahama, Alhaji Yakubu Mahama, and Alhaji Sulemana Mahama; two grandchildren, Edmund and Naarah; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Yabdow Yissifu. Victoria Y. Anim's legacy is one of faith, generosity, and unwavering devotion to God. Her life story serves as a powerful reminder of the impact one individual's faith and love can have on countless lives. She leaves behind a legacy of hope, charity, and spiritual strength that will continue to inspire future generations.
