Wenceslao “Papa” Gonzalez, 86 of Worcester, formerly of Puerto Rico, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at the Lutheran Home surrounded by his daughter Karen.
Papa was born in Adjuntas, Puerto Rico and grew up in Ponce. He was the son of the late Antonio Gonzalez Guzman and Maria del Carmen Reyes Rivera. Papa worked as a machine operator for Nypro Corporation in Clinton, Ma for many years before he retired. He loved watching sports especially the Boston Red Sox, joking around, and spending time with his kids and grandkids. In his younger years, he also enjoyed fishing.
Papa’s wife Maria “Mama” (Torres) Gonzalez passed away on January 15, 2019. He is survived by two sons, Angel Gonzalez and his wife Marisol and Alexis Gonzalez all of Worcester; two daughters, Karen Bueno and her fiancé John Confer and Evette Lugo all of Worcester; a brother, Luis Gonzalez and a sister, Ursula Gonzalez both of Puerto Rico; twelve grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a sister, Angelita Gonzalez.
Services for Papa will be held on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester with a Mass at 10:30 am in St. Joan of Arc Church, 570 Lincoln St., Worcester. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, March 30th from 5-8 pm in the funeral home.
Masks and social distancing in the funeral home, church and cemetery are mandatory.
