William A. Gagnon, 95, of Worcester, passed away on late Thursday night, January 6, 2022. His loving wife, whom he married on July 1, 1950, Phyllis G. (Ferrazano) Gagnon, predeceased him in 1992.
He was born in Millbury but grew up in the Rockdale section of Northbridge, son of the late Augustin and Alice (Foshay) Gagnon. He served in the United States Army during World War II, in the 13th Armored Division Company C, 59th Armored Infantry Battalion. Following the war he worked as a machinist at various area textile mills, and in 1950 he got a job at Persons Majestic, a place that made bicycle parts and automobile hood ornaments.
William later became the Plant Engineer at Worcester City Hall, a position he held from 1961 until his retirement in 1991; it was here that his skills at repairing things earned him the nickname “’Mr. Fix-it”.
William enjoyed many hobbies including, deep sea fishing, swimming, gardening, tinkering, bowling, softball, and tennis. He was a long-time member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, most recently becoming a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church.
He is survived by his son, William J. Gagnon and son in law David M. Lamusta of Worcester; a brother, Wilfred “Butch” Gagnon and sister-in-law Linda Gagnon of Halifax, MA; a sister, Jacquie Dasilva of Raynham, MA; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers and a sister, Joseph, Paul, and Daniel Gagnon, and Marie Freitsch.
Calling Hours will be on Friday, January 14, from 9 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester, followed by a procession departing at 10:40 a.m. for an 11 a.m. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1270 Grafton Street, Worcester. Interment will follow at Saint John’s Cemetery, Worcester.
