William L. LeGay, 83 of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 2, 2022 after a period of declining health.
William was born in Townsend, MA., a son of the late Ralph L. and Evelyn J. (Smith) LeGay. He grew up in Townsend where he graduated from high school. William attended Boston College later transferring to Fitchburg State College where he earned his bachelor’s degree. He worked as a 4th grade teacher in Templeton for over 30 years before his retirement. William was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan, loved gardening and traveling especially to Wells and York Beach, Maine. William loved animals, especially his rescue cat, Pumpkin, who lived to be 22 years old.
William’s wife of 47 years, Maureen E. (Shea) LeGay passed away on April 10, 2021. He is survived by a brother-in-law, Dennis Shea of Worcester; two sisters-in-law, Kathleen Shea of Worcester and Joanne Fitzgibbons of Yarmouth; many nieces and nephews; close friends, Susan and Merle MacNeil of Sutton and Kevin and Tracy Greene of Holden. He is predeceased by an infant brother, Colin LeGay.
Services for William will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2022 with calling hours from 10:30-11:00 am and his funeral service to begin immediately at 11:00 a.m in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Townsend, MA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to a no kill animal shelter of your choice.
