William P. Loughlin, 64 formally of Orlando, Florida, passed away peacefully July 7, 2018, with his devoted sister and family gathered at his side.
William was born and raised in the Worcester Area, one of two children of the late William Loughlin and Lillian M (Scirpoli) Loughlin. He graduated from Wachusett Regional High School class of 1971 and earned his associates degree from Fisher Junior College. William served his country for 4 years in the United States Army. He moved to Florida in 1989, and accepted a position with the Orlando Sentinel Newspaper for 13 years. Shortly after the terrorist attack of 9/11, William joined the new found Homeland Security Agency, as a TSA Agent in its Bomb Division for the next 13 years before retiring in 2015. He spent 30 years as a Florida resident before returning to the Worcester Area, specifically Spencer because of illness.
William is survived by his mother, Lillian (Scirpoli) Loughlin; his sister, Nancy French and her husband Charles with whom he lived, an Uncle Peter Loughlin in Scottsdale, AZ; two nieces, Lori Laplante and her husband Scott, Kerri Barton and her husband Jim; great nieces, and nephews, Fiona Barton, Justin Laplante, and Jameson Barton; many cousins, including Deb Scirpoli whose constant, support was greatly appreciated during a difficult time.
William was a Sports enthusiast; He followed all the Boston Sports teams. Especially the Boston Red Sox, where he could be found on most days watching them on TV, attending spring training or a game in Florida. William was a self-taught guitar player. His love of music was endless.
Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Sunday, July 22nd in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. A period of calling hours will be held from 1 pm to the start of the service in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial remembrances may be made in his name to the Overlook Hospice, 88 Masonic Home Rd # 2, Charlton, MA 01507.
William’s family would like thank Doctor David Shepro, Jen Woodbury and staff for their care and compassion, and the Overlook Hospice and Staff, especially his nurse, Donna Fimian whose support was endless, aides Kathy, Chris, and Aisha for the excellent care and compassion during a difficult time.
