Wingate Havener, of Shrewsbury passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 1, 2021, a few days after his 87th birthday on November 27th . Wingate was born in Waltham, Ma the son of Francis and Edith (Pike) Havener and raised in the greater Boston area. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps as a twenty-year-old and proudly provided two years of service to his country. Wingate then earned his associates degree and accepted a position with NASA participating in the Mercury, Gemini, and the beginning of the Apollo Programs, before leaving and working for Prime, Digital and DEC computer companies. After retiring from the computer industry, Wingate then worked for the town of Framingham as a school bus route driver. Wingate and his family lived in such places as Newton and Natick before moving to Shrewsbury. He is survived by his devoted wife and love of 64 years, Lucy R. (Colella) Havener; his four beloved children, Michael Havener and his wife Lynn of Chelmsford, Robert E. Havener and his wife Linda of Natick, Lawrence C. Havener and his wife Tracey of Ashland, Dr. Karen W. Ruiz and her husband Adalberto of Worcester; 3 grandsons, 3 granddaughters and 4 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and extended family members. Wingate was a proud, and active member of the Aleppo Shriners. As a member of the Cycle Unit, he took part in many parades and competitions in Massachusetts and beyond. Wingate was a 35-year Master Mason of the Alpha Lodge and 32nd degree Mason - Scottish Rite in Boston. Wingate was an avid sports fan of the Red Sox, Patriots, and Woo Sox. A period of calling hours will be held Thursday, December 9th from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. followed by a Masonic service and Marine Military service. Burial in the Veterans National Cemetery in Bourne will be in the Spring. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in his name can be made to the Aleppo Shriners, 99 Fordham Road Wilmington, MA 01887
