Winifred "Winnie" Mangano

November 16, 1928 — July 9, 2023

Winifred “Winnie” (Harris) Mangano, 94, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 9, 2023, at Notre Dame Long-Term Care Center.

A devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, “Mammee” was well loved and cherished by all.

Her husband of 66 years, William F. “Willy” Mangano, pre-deceased her in 2014. Winnie is survived by her three children, William F. Mangano, Jr. and his wife Theresa of Fairbanks, Alaska, Deborah Douglas of Holden, and Andrea “Chickee” Sacco and her husband Michael of Worcester, eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by seventeen siblings.

Winnie was born in the Cherry Valley section of Leicester, MA on November 16, 1928, one of eighteen children to the late John and Annie (Flanagan) Harris. Winnie worked at Dapol Plastics and Telechron before becoming a hairdresser for many years. Winnie was an active member and Eucharistic Minister of St. Mary’s Church in Jefferson, MA.

Winnie loved to dance, sing, and enjoyed theatre. She and Willy were avid travelers and members of the Wally Byam Caravan Club traveling the United States and Canada extensively with their “silver bullet” making acquaintances and long-term friendships along the way. Winnie loved to garden and especially loved her flowers. She could be seen outside every day appreciating her yard. She also enjoyed reading, knitting, crafting, going to the flea markets, antiquing and quick weekend adventures. However, nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her family.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Winnie’s family on Monday, July 17, 2023, from 8:30 am -10:00 am in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester with a procession departing at 10:45 am from the funeral home to St. Mary’s Church, 114 Princeton St., Jefferson where her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Saint John’s Cemetery, Worcester.  In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances in Winnie’s name can be made to: St. Mary’s Church, 114 Princeton Rd., Jefferson, MA 01520 or to Notre Dame Long-Term Care Center, 559 Plantation St., Worcester, MA 01605.
