Yanusya (Elkin) Eydis, 93 of Worcester, a native of Russia passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones at home, Saturday, August 24th, 2019.
Born in Simferopol, Krym Russia she was a daughter of Jacob and Rosa (Golovitser) Elkin. Raised and educated in Russia, Yanusya became a school teacher for middle and high school students and worked until the age of 65, Yanusya then immigrated to the United States on June 22, 1991 to be closer to her children here in Worcester. She has lived here ever since.
Yanusya’s husband Yuri Eydis passed away in Russia in 1990; She is survived by her two devoted daughters, Marina Petranin, and Luba Starkov and her husband Michael; a sister, Itta Elkina all of Worcester; three grandchildren she adored and who lovingly called her “baboula”, Roman Roshchin of Ashland, Valera Starikov of London, and Yana Ellowitz of Holden; five great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and extended family both here and in Russia.
Yanusya was a beautiful person who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life; spending time with her family, especially caring for and babysitting her grandchildren; family dinners, reading, crafts including knitting, crochet, and making jewelry. She cherished being in the U.S. with her family and even went to language school to learn English.
A period of calling hours will be held Tuesday, August 27th from 9:30 am to 10:30 am follow by her service at 10:30 am in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Burial will follow in B’Nai B’rith Cemetery.
