Yolanda N. (Gallati) DiMonopoli, 93, a life-long resident of Worcester and devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away Monday, April 19, 2021 after a period of declining health.
Yolanda born and raised in Worcester, one of ten children of Italian immigrants Antonio and Frances (Buffone) Gallati. She then met and married Leo F DiMonopoli in Our Lady of Mt Carmel church. They
settled on Grafton Hill, and lived a life of faith, devotion and love raising their family until Leo left her side in May of 1995. Yolanda continued to guide her family until her passing.
Besides Yolanda’s husband (Leo). She was predeceased by her brothers Bruno, Samuel, Bruno (Frank), Joseph, and by her sisters Antoinette DiPierro, Rose Zecco, Rita Langone, and Gladys Quitadamo.
Yolanda is survived by her two children, Judy O’Rourke and her husband Paul of Worcester, and Leonard DiMonopoli of Northborough; the three grandchildren she was so proud of, Michael O’Rourke and his wife Danielle, Saralyn Boyle and her husband Daniel all of Millbury, Paul O’Rourke and his wife Brittany of Rutland; seven great grandchildren, Abram, Aria, Daniel, Lena, Rylan, Caleb and Morgan; a sister, Dolores Mazzone and her husband Michael of Millbury; Many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Yolanda with an abundance of Faith, devotion and heritage, she was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel church attending mass regularly at both Mt Carmel and St Johns Church. Her husband, children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. She was the backbone of her family and always at her happiest when she could be with them for visits, dinners, holidays, or special occasions. She was a beautiful person who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life; cooking and baking Italian delicacies, daily trips to the grocery store, singing and yodeling, dancing, bingo, playing cards with family, and enjoying her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was known for whipping up a delicious feast in a moment's notice, feeding anyone who entered her home, and delivering a hot meal or loaf of bread to a neighbor. Babysitting for her grandchildren was a joy, she continued to be there for them even through their adult lives. Faith, family, and friends were the most important part of her life. She was very generous with her love, time, and resources, and was only a phone call away.
Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours, Tuesday April 27, from 4 pm to 7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Her funeral will be held Wednesday, April 28th from the Funeral home with a procession to St John Church, 44 Temple St where her celebration of Christian burial Mass will be held at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in St John’s Cemetery.
The O’Rourke family would like to thank the Doctors, nurses, and staff of the Umass-Memorial 7 east for the warmth, care, comfort, and compassion they gave to Yolanda.
