Dolores Bush

Dolores A. (DiDonna) Bush, 92, of Worcester, formerly of Sutton and Cape Cod, passed away on Friday, November 3, 2023 at Christopher House in Worcester.  Her husband, Sherman J. Bush, predeceased her in January 2008.

Dolores is survived by two brothers, Nicholas J. DiDonna and his wife Brenda, and John R. DiDonna and his wife of Marie, both of Grafton; a step-son, Perry Bush of Boerne, TX; a step-daughter, Shermain Smith and her husband Larry of Woodlands, TX; three grandchildren; several great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.

Dolores was born in Northampton, daughter of James N. and Mary S. (Giacomina) DiDonna.  She graduated from Saint Peter High School in Worcester and received a bachelor’s degree from Anna Maria College.  She later received a master’s degree in psychology from Assumption College. 

She later served as a Sister of Mercy for twenty years, where she taught in the diocesan schools of the Worcester Diocese, and was one of the first faculty at Marian Central Catholic High School when it was established in 1963; and established the guidance department at the high school. She also taught in Santa Ana, California at the diocesan schools there. 

Upon her departure from the Sister’s of Mercy, she began a long-time career as an educator and guidance director at Dennis-Yarmouth High School and later at Sandwich High School on Cape Cod.  As she aged, her love of learning never diminished. Art and music were among the many joys in her life, as well as reading, knitting, and enjoying being a sport spectator.

She enjoyed family and friends, all of whom were dear to her.  She cherished the memories created in days when she was able to entertain.  Dolores was active in the ministry at Christopher Heights, where she was a sacristan, member of the choir and lector.  She had been a member of Saint Mark’s in Sutton but has most recently been a member of Saint Anne in Shrewsbury.

She continued to thank God in her daily prayers in thanksgiving for all the blessing bestowed upon her throughout her life.

There will be a Memorial Funeral Mass on Saturday, November 18, at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Anne’s Church, 120 Boston Turnpike Road (Route 9 East), Shrewsbury.  Interment will follow at Saint John’s Cemetery in Worcester.  Her family will greet friends and relatives in the church from 9:45 a.m. until the Mass begins at 10:30 a.m.
