Doris K (Petersen) Datow, 87, of Worcester and formerly of Boston passed away peacefully on May 2, 2022, in Knollwood Nursing Center. Her husband of 20 years, Charles Datow passed away on December 7, 2006.
Doris was born in Boston, the daughter of Roland and Katherine (DeDomenico) Petersen. After raising her family, she worked as a home health aide in Boston, helping the elderly. Then she went on working for Long Island Hospital in housekeeping for many years.
Doris is survived by three sons, Daniel G. Dyer of New Hampshire, James G. Dyer and his wife Mary of Roslindale and Thomas Dyer of Salem, MA; two daughters, Marjorie S. Tretheway and her husband Dale of Worcester and Mary A. Galipeault and her husband William of Manchester, NH; four sisters, Ann Thomas of East Bridgewater, Marie Day of East Bridgewater, Jean Haggerty of Brockton and Louise Bowdridge of Walpole; four grandchildren, Eric Tretheway of Worcester, Tyler Tretheway and his wife Nicole of Weymouth, James Dyer and Robert Dyer of Quincy; a sister in law, Janet King and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her first husband, Richard C. Dyer and their three sons, Robert M., John R., and William C. Dyer. Her sister, Katherine Tierney also predeceases her.
She enjoyed reading, cooking, and sharing her many beautiful paint by number artworks .She and her husband Charlie enjoyed traveling, concerts, picnics on Castle Island, and the many gatherings with family and friends, for whom she will be greatly missed, as well as her many friends at Knollwood Nsg. Ctr. Doris was a very giving person with a huge heart and a beautiful cheerful smile for everyone. She was an amazing cook, not only preparing meals for a family of 10, but always had enough to feed a friend we happened to bring home with us.
She was very social and loved to take part in everything. She especially loved the wine social event at Knollwood, as well as bingo, painting, and the many other activities there. It was such a great fit for her. Special thanks to Jill and Paul for sharing their time and amazing talent entertaining the residents with sing alongs at wine social over the years. I truly believe it added years to her life. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all.
On behalf of Doris, her family would like to thank all her friends and caregivers at Knollwood Nursing Center. Her final years were full of love and caring. A special thank you to Cynthia, her roommate. We know how much She appreciated you. You were her “pal and confidant,” more like her sixth sister, and she would say “thank you for being a friend “
