Roger J. LaPlante

December 1, 1946 — March 10, 2023

Roger J. LaPlante, 76, formerly of Webster, long-time area meteorologist, passed away on Friday, March 10, 2023, in Florida, after battling Alzheimer’s Disease for many years.

Roger is survived by his father, Joseph E. LaPlante, Sr. US Army World War II Purple Heart veteran; two sons, Roger LaPlante, Jr. and Christopher LaPlante; a brother, CSM Ret. Joseph E. LaPlante, Jr., US Army Veteran; three sisters, Annette Runciman, Sr. Jan LaPlante, and Patricia Piniarski; nieces and nephews.

He was self-taught and won many science fairs growing up, having built a digital computer to map weather patterns, while in high school.  His efforts gained the attention of the Navy, Air Force, and NASA.  He was enrolled in a special accelerated program in the Navy for high school students and found himself attached to the Navy’s Fleet Weather Command in Virginia.  He later enlisted in the Navy after attending Bartlett HS in 1966 and was assigned to the Air Rescue Station in North Carolina as a meteorologist.

Roger was a noted meteorologist for over thirty-five years in the Worcester area after his service, working in television and radio, forecasting for stations including, Channel 10 and 12 in Providence, WNEB, and WAAF-WFTQ and Newswatch 40.  He would later retire from WNEB and Channel 27. People who new Roger had a caring for him and he will be missed.
